Abstract
Product requirements grow with customer requirements. Thus, systems become more complex, but the demands for quality, reliability, safety and energy efficiency increase. In order to meet these requirements, the priority must be on the designing of robust and reliable products and their Design Parameters (DP) in the Product Development Process (PDP). SMART (Systematic Method for Axiomatic Robustness-Testing) is a method for the development of these robust and reliable products. In this paper, the holistic approach is shown by an elementarymachine component. Therefore, the focus lies on the reliability prognosis and definition in the early state of the PDP.
