Abstract
Aim of this contribution is to introduce a framework for an improved understanding of design iterations, which allows considering design iterations as being related to the product as well as to the product development process. The relation to both the product and the development process is necessary for an adequate handling of inevitable design iterations: Focussing on the product development process enables developers to recognize the process step where they have to jump back to when conducting design iterations. Considering the product oriented view of design iterations is necessary to identify those changes that will improve the product without negative side-effects. So, for the adequate management of iterative product development, an enhanced understanding of design iterations is necessary that involves aspects of the product as well as the related product development process. In this contribution a framework for property based product development is presented, which supports a product oriented view as well as a process oriented view of design iterations.
