Abstract

To study engineering can be difficult sometimes, especially when transforming theoretical knowledge into practice. To address this issue, the fundamentals of a reverse engineering and product redesign methodology focused on existing products is presented, it is suggested that this methodology can be used as a tool in the process of learning engineering design. This statement is evaluated throughout this paper, stressing the importance of the tear-down analysis stage and evaluating its overall usefulness as an educational tool, A theoretical background of the methodology will be introduced, including descriptions concerning the different steps and their encompassed tools; tests, methods as well as possible lines for future research.
