Abstract

In literature, design research appears to be an underexposed element of product design curricula. At NTNU's Department of Product Design, the staff has 8 years of experience with teaching the PD-9 course, which aims to make students familiar with how to research existing theory and apply it into a practical design project. A survey among students who have taken this course in the past shows a high level of satisfaction, and indicates that students continue to apply theoretical insights in their professional career. At the same time the course has contributed to departmental research activities and publications.
